📖 This Week's Story

In August, Armenians celebrate a very special day honoring the Holy Mother of God — "Soorp Asdvadzadzin." This feast is called "Verapokhoom" — the Assumption. The Church teaches that when Mary's earthly life ended, she was taken up to heaven, body and soul. She is with her Son, Jesus, in heaven, and she prays for all of us. Armenians love the Asdvadzadzin deeply. Many Armenian churches are named after her. On this feast day, families bring flowers and herbs to be blessed. It's a beautiful summer celebration full of color and fragrance.
